Walleyes before the “Opener”

Posted by Eric Wolf on Sunday, May 30, 2010, In : Fishing

After a great winter of fishing for the whole West Metro Outdoors crew and a long and busy spring, Kyle and I finally rounded up our walleye tackle and hit the water. A little late I know, but we did manage to tie into a few. Last week was the first time we got on the unfrozen lake in search of some walleyes. That night did not produce one walleye for us.  A perch and a sheepshead later our first night of fishing was over. We weren’t too bothered by it as it was a wonderful night to be on t...

Good Ole' Marble Eyes

Posted by Kyle Stender on Thursday, January 14, 2010, In : Fishing
This past couple of weeks has just been a blast! The WMO crew has been busy; scouting for spots, moving fish houses, and keeping up to date with the latest weather conditions. The weather which plays a big factor in any kind of fishing, has been just crazy. It seems like every other day the barometer is moving up and down constantly. We have experienced -25 degrees below 0, to now a balmy 30's for highs! Considering the variable weather change we have still been seeing a good walleye bite, ev...

Winter Walleyes!!

Posted by Kyle Wickenhauser on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, In : Fishing

Minnesota is known for a few things in the winter; cold temps, snowy weather and of course the frozen lakes. The whole west metro team has been hitting the hard water since the lakes have been freezing up with success. The walleye action has been good as of late, just like any other early season during the winter. Here are a few pics of the last couple of weeks from my outings.

Inaugural George Wahl Memorial Muskie Tournament

Posted by Kyle Stender on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, In : Fishing
This past Saturday was one to remember as Kyle Wickenhauser and myself fished in the first ever George Wahl Memorial Tournament. The tournament had taken place in the metro area consisting of 12 different lakes. This tournament wasn't about the prizes, it was about helping out our local lakes and stocking them with more of or favorite fish: the elusive muskie. With 200 contestants fishing the event it wasn't going to be an easy one, but Wicky and I had confidence.

Before talking about how the ...

A first time for everyone...

Posted by Kyle Stender on Thursday, September 3, 2009, In : Fishing
Within the last week the muskie bite has been just incredible. About a week ago I had caught my new personal best coming in at 52 1/2”!!! As you might remember from my last post that same night I had caught the big girl, was the same night my dad was supposed to come out with me, but unfortunately couldn't make it.

Later on in the week I had taken my dad out trying to get him on his first muskie ever. The weather that night was spectacular and I knew it was going to be one of those awesome ...

GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!

Posted by Kyle Stender on Thursday, August 27, 2009, In : Fishing
I want to touch base, about a fish that I had caught just a few days ago August 25th....

A couple days ago I had the day off of work and was planning on hitting the water for the evening. I loaded up the boat and arrived to the lake early thinking I wanted to get a little fishing done before my dad would arrive. The plan was to take my dad out that evening to get him on his first muskie!! Well around 5 o'clock came around and the phone rang and it was my dad telling me how we wasn't going to ...

2009 In Towne Marina Classic

Posted by Eric Wolf and Kyle Stender on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, In : Fishing

What is the In Towne Marina Classic you might ask? Well I didn’t have a clue of what it was until I got my work schedule for the week and stapled to that was the rules for the Classic. Years ago the owners of In Towne Marina, Jim and Cindy Mase, would always put on a small fishing tournament for the employees of ITM. This year it made its return. With 4 employees, they decided to make it teams. 2 boats, and 2 guys per boat. To Kyle and I, the teams were obvious. It was going to be Kyle and ...

THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER...

Posted by Kyle Stender on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, In : Fishing
Wow this past week has been insanely crazy and fun filled with muskies. All of us including Nate, Wicky, Eric, and I have been hitting the water 4-5 days a week and even sometimes 2 times in one day! Every time we venture out on the water we are always catching and seeing muskies. Some of the days we would go out and see up to 10 fish a day!! It was an incredible week overall. First of all I want to start off talking about the weather and fishing from earlier last week. The weather was look...

Midnight Cats!!!!

Posted by Eric Wolf on Thursday, July 23, 2009, In : Fishing

Man have the winds been brutal this past week! I have been working and just watching the few boats on the water get thrown around like rag dolls, so I changed my normal pattern of fishing almost every day during the week to relaxing at home or hanging out with friends. I survived without fishing for a few days, but just barely. Finally the wind died down a little bit on Friday so I decided to hit the water. Everyone called me crazy for going out with the cold front that just rolled through, b...

Back At It…

Posted by Kyle Wickenhauser on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, In : Fishing

Saturday evening I was back on the water for another evening of muskie hunting! The recent wind as of late has kept me off the water, so needless to say I was eager to get back in my groove out there! It all started just like any other day, Matt showed up at my house at 6 to go cast for some hogs! After we hooked the boat up it was off to the marina! I ran inside to get a beverage for the outing, while Stender was ringing me up he flashed some new baits that he just made in my face! Now, you ...

Muskie season underway…

Posted by Kyle Wickenhauser on Saturday, July 18, 2009, In : Fishing
Where has the first part of summer gone already??? I have been hitting the water hard the past month and a half, only missing about five days on the water in search of those big fish. Every time out we are learning new tactics and searching for new areas to catch our next big muskie. The bite has been pretty good for the past couple of weeks, raising multiple fish every time out and boating a couple monsters too. We have also put a handful of pike and nice size bass in the boat during our out...

My first muskie!!!

Posted by Eric Wolf on Monday, July 13, 2009, In : Fishing

Since muskie season opened June 6th I have been out on the water chasing them about 3-4 days a week. I have boated a few nice sized bass that engulfed my bucktails, but no sign of the infamous Muskellunge. Up to last week the closest I came to a muskie was just a few follows up to the boat. That all changed July 3rd when I landed my first muskie.  The night before Mike Ernst was out fishing for some walleyes when he asked if I would like to join him the following morning. After a quick check ...

Muskie Madness 2009 Begins!!

Posted by Kyle Stender on Sunday, June 7, 2009, In : Fishing

For many of you that have viewed our website, you probably have noticed that we were really lacking in the month of May for stories and updated fishing information. To say the least we apologize for the inconvenience. All of us including Eric, Nate, Kyle, and I were very busy writing papers and taking final exams in order to complete our school  year. I can say one thing I am sure glad it’s over so we can all look forward to a fun filled summer on the lake. In the mean time while I was fin...

2009 Waconia Bass Opener

Posted by Eric Wolf on Thursday, June 4, 2009, In : Fishing

Bass opener is always a fun time of the year for me. School is almost done, the weather is starting to get nice, work is picking up, and of course, fishing! I didn’t plan on going on the lake on bass opener due to a busy day at work and a few graduation parties, but after the twist of my arm from my good friend and fellow coworker Ben Brettingen, I was on the water chasing some bass.

Lake Waconia is always a great producer of largemouth bass. The pressure can be very high at times, but if ...

RIVER RUNNIN...

Posted by Kyle Wickenhauser on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, In : Fishing

I only have had one thing on my mind the past couple of weeks and that’s catfish! I have been going down to the river almost every other day in pursuit of some channel cats, and some good ole‘ fashioned rough fish. After a slow start at first, it is beginning to pick up for us. Before we got started yesterday, Matt and myself stopped at a muskie tackle shop to get some new supplies for the upcoming season! As we were drooling over some new top water baits, the 93X girls started harassing ...

Puttin the hammer down...

Posted by Nate Eder on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, In : Fishing

No! No! No! This isn’t about building houses or anything, this is about the adventures that happened this weekend.  Every year when the fish houses are off the metro lakes and the ice starts to melt we make a trip due north to the cabin.  Now this isn’t any trip you may think.  It’s a family trip that my dad, my brother Arron and I have made ever since I can remember.  So when I was sitting down at college and the phone call came to ask if I was coming, I wasn’t going to turn it d...

In persuit of bullgills...

Posted by Kyle Stender on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, In : Fishing

Last weekend we had taken a trip to a new lake. While we were all excited hoping to catch the famous “pounder” it was close but no cigar. The gang consisted of Nate, Arron, Wicky, Screech, and I. We had taken all of our gear and loaded it up into the enclosed trailer the night before. That night I remember Nate telling Wicky that he’s got to bring the donuts. My part was to bring the wax worms and Screech was supplying the enclosed trailer, while Nate was driving. Aaron well let’s ju...
